DIY: Upcycled table & chairs

How to breathe a new lease of life into an old piece of furniture through upcycling using chalk paint

I've been wanting to have a go at upcycling for a while, so when I was handed down an old table and chairs, I was so excited to get started, and thought I'd share with you how I got on with my first ever project!

After a bit of research, and asking for some advice from some lovely people over on Instagram, I decided to go with Annie Sloan for the paint, so got hold of some in shade Original, and also bought some of their clear wax to finish it off with.

I started off by giving the table and chairs a quick clean-up, and got stuck into the painting! I found the paint went on very easily on the table, however it wasn't as easy on the chairs - I think it may have been because there was a slightly different finish on them to the table, so would probably try sanding them a bit first if I was to do it again. After two coats though, they were looking much better.

The finished result! I've topped it off with some seat pads from Dunelm, my picnic basket and some faux flowers. I'm really happy with the way it turned out, and although it took a lot of elbow grease and nearly a whole can of paint, I would definitely have a go at upcycling again - I just need to find my next project!
