Outdoor Bar DIY with Hobbycraft*

It's that time of year again, we're all getting out into the garden to enjoy the sunshine - and what better way to do that than with your own outdoor bar?! For the bar
Wooden crates x9
Large piece of MDF (mine measures 1220 x 607mm)
Wood glue
Drill & screws
Chalk paint (if you want to paint your crates)
Wheels x4

For the BAR letters

Wooden fillable letters to spell out the word BAR - B, A & R
Faux grass roll
Artificial succulents: I used these ones, these green spiky ones, these flocked heart ones, and these mauve pink ones (these are now sold out - alternative here).

To make the outdoor bar

There are lots of different ways you could stack the crates to make your bar, however I've placed three crates on top of each other to create three tall towers, gluing them together with wood glue.

Place two of the towers next to each other, and the third on the end. We then attached the towers together using a drill and small screws to make sure it was extra secure.

I then painted the crates using chalk paint - but you could decorate them however you like - Hobbycraft has a huge range of coloured chalk paint and decoupage paper which you could use to cover the crates in instead.

We then placed the sheet of MDF on top of the crates and secured with some more wood glue, after which I gave it a lick of paint.

Finally we attached the wheels to the bottom using a drill, so it can be easily moved around.

Style however you like! I've gone with some mason jar lights, pom poms and paper lanterns. It's also the perfect height for perching on a bar stool sipping a drink!

To make the BAR letters 

To add a touch of glam I've made this BAR sign, which I absolutely love! To do this I used some wooden fillable letters and a roll of artificial grass - which I actually think would also look really cool styled as a table runner over the top of the bar too?!

First I measured out the artificial grass, cutting around the wooden letters - use a sharp pair of scissors as this is a bit tricky.

Push the grass into the letters - you could glue this in if you wanted, however I didn't bother as I found they held in place really well.

I then played around with the succulents until they were in a layout I was happy with, and chopped them down to size. Cut a hole through the grass to poke the stems through - I found they held in place extra securely if you also place a blob of blue tac under the grass for the stem to sit in.

You're all done! I've really pleased with this little mini-craft, and think you could adapt this idea to so many different words/styles.

I'm so happy with how this DIY has turned out - and think it could be really versatile should you want to style it for a garden party/BBQ or even just to sit in the garden for your morning cup of coffee.
